First up...&nbsp; Cattails National Park Zipper heads down this Friday to Cattails in National Park! This is a new venue for us!&nbsp; <a target="_new" href="http://www.facebook.com/events/348884621832418/"> Facebook Event! The show starts at 9pm! So I had never been to Cattails before.&nbsp; Quite honestly the pics of the outside that I found on the internet were misleading. So I had never been to Cattails before.  Quite honestly the pics of the outside that I found on the internet were misleading.

But I took a ride down there tonight (Thurs).  Had a few drinks, took some pics.

And I really like this place!!!   I can't wait to play there Friday night... and actually, i can't wait to get back there again soon just to hang out!!

Inside it definately has local bar feel...  but its bright and friendly, and much roomier than it looks from the outside.

Large bar in front, pool table, a living room set-up (yes, I said that!)

Band sits in the room opposite the bar... but everyone gets to hear.

Its open.  It's inviting.

One of the biggest features for summertime is, they have a covered deck on the back, that sits along the river!    Tables are set up, and i see a small outside bar, but not sure if it will be open on Friday.  But the deck definately will!!

Its going to be in the 80s on Friday...    its awesome that you can step right out into the cooler cooler air along the river.

We have 6 more shows through the end of May and Mark will be singing with Zipper through all of them!?Make sure you get out to these shows and get your fill of Zipper over the next 2 months!  Mark says other than a few random open mics, he'll be out of action for a year or so... who knows?!

No plans yet on what this means to the band
No big drama reason. No pressure from anyone. My wife is more shocked than anyone.  I love the band, love the guys and fans. I guess, while its an awesome thing we've been happily doing this for 3 years, I never really expected it to go this far (even tho I was doing a lot of the pushing!)… I love music and singing, but there are other things I want to accomplish with the time right now… things that can help get my ass retired well before I am 65!  I'm a computer guy during  the day and there are a few ideas I want to jump into now…  helps boost up my skills, and who knows… maybe I write the next million dollar selling iPhone app?!

Thanks everyone for supporting me in 4+ years of bar bands... it's been a blast.  I hope to see all of the Zipper friends many times over the next 2 months, and into the future.

George Stott, a long time great friend of Zipper and the South Jersey band community is fighting one of life's toughest battles… kidney cancer.  George and his family needs our prayers and support.  His friends and family have organized a fundraiser on April 29, 2012 (Sunday) at the Brooklawn American Legion to help with medical bills, and to show him we are there for him.
 
Its a 5 hour event….  4pm-9pm

  • Silent Auction
  • Theater Show Revue
  • And two bands….  
  • Zipper!!!
  • The Strayz,  as we all remember them… with George, Marla, and Vince reuniting with the Band!!!    This alone is worth the ticket price!!!

Wow.. we are already filling up with shows for the first half of the year! We are still holding true to the "Two shows per month" plan, and with that... our schedule into Summer is almost fully booked. In March, Mark is taking a vacation so that limits available dates. We could do another show in Feb and April... Actually, 2 more dates may be all we have room for heading into Memorial Day weekend, and there are a bunch of our favorite places not on the schedule.  We warned them....

We'll disclose the places in a bit.   Just keep your schedule clear! :-)

Barrington Harvest Festival
One of South Jersey’s biggest and best town festivals will have Zipper as one of its featured performers!
The Barrington Harvest Festival is one of the largest, with countless craft vendors, food options.. and entertainment!
This is is a great family event… perfect to bring the kids because they have rides and animals for the kids.

For 2011, Zipper will be taking the stage down by the Rail Tavern at 3:15, for a 45 minute “Close out the day” set. Earlier in the day the stage will have host a variety of bands, mostly youth oriented… But then Zipper takes over to welcome the adult crowds down to grab a beer or two at the Rail (and to get some awesome food from Richeez’s kitchen at the Rail).

Connie Mac’s – September
Wow… one of our best times ever, was at Connie Mac’s a few weeks back. Zipper fans packed the deck, as well as a lot of new fans from “old skool Bellmawr”! By the second set, we had a BIG group of dancers out on the deck. Mike the bouncer said “I’ve been here all summer, and I’ve never seen anything like this… we never get this many dancers.  My girlfriend isn't here tonight, and I had to send her video when I told her what was going on!”

Somehow when we added a bunch of &ldquo;fun, everyone loves them, hanging out at the shore bar&rdquo; songs&hellip; we never added any Journey Tunes. Now we have 2! We already played one at MerryFields (Any way you want it), and we will be introducing a second Journey tune at Connie Macs This is after adding Sublime&rsquo;s &ldquo;What I got&rdquo;, Aint too proud to Beg and 2 songs from the Who&hellip; The Real Me, and Bobby O&rsquo;Reilly! I call it Bobby O&rsquo;Reilly cause ya really have to hear (and see) Bob pull off the synthesizer sounds with his guitar&hellip; while still playing the guitar leads! We now have 5 Who songs in the set list. Where else can you go to hear Aqualung, Pinball Wizard, Spirit of the Radio and then Breakfast at Tiffany's,I'm a Believer and Sweet Caroline? Prior Show: Merryfields! Wow&hellip; another great time and crowd at Merryfield&rsquo;s back on August 26th. No one jumped up on the tables like they did earlier in the year, but we had a great crowd, and a great time! &nbsp; Like always we had many band friends show up and take a turn on the mic&hellip; including Rich from Almost Fab, Jack and Janet from CC Jackson, and both Drummer Gary and Tom from the Junk Yard Dogs took a turn at the drums. Newer venue&rsquo;s such as the Pike Tavern, Clancy&rsquo;s and Dublin Square have popped up the last few years. And from what started out as a very sad story&hellip; is now getting happy again. The Golden Nugget Tavern in Berlin experienced a fire earlier in the year, knocking out a great country and rock venue. Bands chipped and held a week long fundraiser&hellip;. And now, a new Golden Nugget is rising from the ashes!! Over at their website, they are posing construction updates&hellip;. Video! Check out the progress and plans! Connie Mac’s – Friday Sept 16. 9:30pm – 2:00am
If there is one thing you remember from this post… its that Zipper takes over the deck at Connie Mac’s this upcoming Friday, Sept 16. Its our third time there, and second outside. Quickly, Connie Macs has become one of our favorite venues. Its deceptively BIG! From the front it looks like a decent sized place, but they can get a ton of people inside… and wait till you go outside! Possibly the biggest deck in the area. It can easily seat over 120 people.
Zipper is setting up outside… and if the weather is bad we can move the show inside!

We really had a great time earlier in the summer! Packed house! Dancers swinging on poles! Lots of great Zipper friends! Good times!

Zipper singer Mark hails from Bellmawr… and an ol’ school “FB- Bellmawr friends” reunion already has about 3 dozen people heading over.  Connie Mac's is also in our homebase area of Collingswood and Audubon, so all the planets are in alignment for a great show!

Connie Macs is VERY easy to get to from the Zipper home base areas. Its located in Pennsauken, on Rt 130 (Crescent Blvd) next to the Cooper River and almost directly across from the golf driving range that you’ve driven by 1000 times. Bellmawr, Audubon, Runnemede, Cherry Hill, Oaklyn, Pennsauken, Westmont are all short drives


New Gigs!!! Halloween at Pike Tavern Friday October 28!!
The Big news for our upcoming gigs is we’ve secured our spot for Halloween….
We are BACK at the Pike Tavern in Magnolia!! Brian and the crew over there are such awesome people… the bar is a great set-up for bands… and we have a frigging damn good time. Brian is such a good guy, he even attended the Trish Memorial event at the Rocking Stone. We intentionally picked Friday Oct 28 for the party. Taking a gamble that most Halloween parties will be on Saturday, and we’ll pick up a great Friday crowd (not that we were worried). Like last year there will be prizes and food. We have great pics from last years event… check them out here! Last year was seriously one of the top best times we’ve had… don’t miss it this year

More Gig News
Remember our rule about keeping the shows down to 2 a month… well that plan has seemed to go astray for the next few months…. As we have a BUSY schedule

As I mentioned, this Friday Sept 16th we are at Connie Macs!

Then a week later on September 23rd, we are back at the Southwood, and we have something very unique! For the first time singer Mark can’t make a gig (wedding in Cali!) and is turning over the microphone to someone else… George Stott. George has taken a break from music recently but his latest band action was with the Strayz. George sings, drums, brings home the bacon. He does it all.

Then just over a week later on October 1st, Zipper rocks the crowd at a new spot for us… Clancy’s in Brooklawn NJ!! Clancy’s manager Amanda has been trying to get Zipper into her bar for several months. Schedules never matched up… so when we had a chance for a gig, even with a busy schedule.. we had to jump at it. Amanda did a big band push this summer, and she told us she had MULTIPLE Zipper fans tell her she needs to book us! Thank You Zipper Fans!! Plus this is practically in Mark’s back yard having grown up just a few blocks away in Bellmawr... so hoping to pull in the neighborhood crew too!

Pennant Last day
This Sunday September 11, the Pennant East hosts “Pennant Palooza”! It’s an all day party with NFL football and a series of their best bands. Last week’s Friends for Trish Memorial Event
Zipper had a great time at the Rocking Stone this past Saturday. A 3-Band show with Zipper, Night Prowler and Sordid Past! Each band was at the top of its game, bringing out their "big guns".  There were fans and band friends all over the place! 

The event was for Trish Weintraut. Trish passed away this year, and she is the wife of Bob (guitarist for Zipper and Sordid Past). Trish is originally from Wildwood NJ and Bob wants to honor her memory with a bench in Wildwood, and the Rocking Stone event was to raise money for the bench.  Trish was an amazing person, who always smiled, and cared for everyone. She was a friend to all.. and especially the band community.  The Rocking Stone was packed all night long as the music flowed and the fun grew..

Zipper’s 50 minute set included some of our best songs, including Roundabout, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and of course, Born To Run… which was one of Trish’s favorite jams.

We've had a new logo for several months now... just hadn't done anything with it.  We now have a new 3x6 ft banner which is an awesome reproduction of our new Zipper logo.  It will be on display for all of our gigs, and we will be unveiling it at...

Gigs
Today, August 20th we will be performing at the Rocking Stone with 2 other great South Jersey bands; Night Prowler and Sordid Past.   Zipper is the opening set at 9pm.  The event is in honor of Trish Weintraut, Zipper Bob's wife who passed away this year.  Trish was an amazing, fun and loving woman and Bob would like to put up a memorial bench for Trish in her hometown of Wildwood.  The event is to raise funds for the bench.   See facebook for details
